CLéMENCE VON MUEFFLING

FRENCH BEAUTY maven Clémence von Mueffling’s rich beauty heritage was all she needed to launch her website, Beauty and Well Being.

Clémence von Mueffling, editor and founder of Beauty and Well Being, the website that converts French girl beauty myth into skin and makeup advice, is a third-generation beauty authority—both her mother and grandmother were beauty editors at Vogue Paris. At first glance, von Mueffling is French girl chic in real life. Often bedecked in Carolina Herrera white shirts imprinted with lace cutouts and classic navy trousers, it’s von Mueffling’s incredible skin that makes an impact. With a multi-generational approach to beauty, von Mueffling swaps tips and advice with her mother and grandmother on a daily basis, and believes in a holistic approach to taking care of your skin. “My grandmother always says to go to bed with a clean face. She also told me to find products you love which will make this ritual a really wonderful one,” says von Mueffling.

For von Mueffling, launching a beauty website that combined informative health and beauty news with compelling articles about wellness, products, and lifestyle was an easy decision. “At a young age I fell in love with skincare products; textures that could be silky smooth or rough and fragrance that would transport you for a few seconds. Skincare and makeup can be amazing at making you feel good and look good. They’re mini escapes within our daily busy routine.” She earned her stripes working at Dior, Clarins, and fragrance house Puig before launching the site in 2014. Her vision was clear: To create a beauty-focused online destination that celebrates wellness at its core, with relevant, beautiful articles that appealed to women of every age. Beauty and Well Being includes interviews with some of the world’s most fascinating women, such as Marisa Berenson, Carolina Herrera, and Aerin Lauder, product reviews, and recipes for healthy eating. Each month features a different theme—they’ve ranged from sleep to working women—and in a quintessentially French way, touches on all aspects that make up a beautiful life.

As for von Mueffling, her favorite part of the beauty world is skincare. “Cleansing your face is essential, otherwise you’re adding a moisturizer onto a face that still has residue of sebum and pollution,” she says. “At night I clean my face with a soft cream cleanser then I add a toner on a large cotton pad—to perfect the cleansing step—and I finish with a spritz of thermal water. Just these three steps help to get your glow back!”
