There was a general consensus this fashion week that things within the industry were changing, and perhaps in reaction to that change, there was less to get excited about on the runway. Luckily, all that seemed to change in Milan, beginning with Alessandro Michele’s joyful and colorful offering for Gucci. One of the biggest standouts of the season also happened in Italy: Marni. Designer Consuelo Castiglioni has been at the helm of the label since 1994, and her brand of quirky chic has won her fans all over the world. This season she pushed her vision even further, offering up strange new puffy shoulder shapes (it sounds strange, but it really wasn’t), incredible jewelry, knitted and fur shrugs pulled down low around shoulders, and dark, berry-tinted lipstick that is sure to become a beauty trend. It was both wearable and inspirational, different yet familiar, and at the same time, instantly desirable.
