THERE ARE SOME places you walk into and know immediately that the cool crowd eats there. Le Turtle (located on Christie St in New York's Lower East Side) is one of them. Not only is the decor chic—low lounges in muted pink and brass overhanging lamps—and the music better than most clubs, but the food is exquisite too. A location more suited to sharing dishes than the traditional appetizer/main routine, standouts include the Le Turtle bread and butters, which features a torn off chunk of delicious bread and three differently flavored butters to slather on top. The mushrooms are another to try (and the most popular dish on the menu), as is the fresh cheese and kabocha. Just don't expect to find a snap of the interior anywhere online—it's too cool for that.
